State Library
Client: Built (VIC)
Project Size: 68t
Apex Welding was honoured to contribute to the restoration and transformation of one of Victoria’s most treasured cultural landmarks – the heritage-listed State Library of Victoria. Our team was engaged to deliver both structural and architectural steel works across the library’s historic and newly imagined spaces. The steel package played a pivotal role in reintroducing natural light into the Ian Potter Queen’s Hall and added distinctive flair to the Children’s Quarter and Ideas Quarter.
A standout component of our scope involved the structural strengthening and resurfacing of the main entrance staircases. This included the installation of feature handrails lined with LED lighting. We worked closely on the design to preserve the integrity of the heritage marble staircase while constructing a new exoskeletal steel layer to support the updated stone surface and a delicately crafted bronze-finished handrail with integrated stainless steel LED grabrails.
